KAMLOOPS, BC — The Kamloops Storm withstood a third period rally from the 100 Mile House Wranglers to emerge with a 5-4 shootout win in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday night (Jan 19) at Mac Isle.
The Storm got a regulation time and a shootout goal from forward Braycen Dube (Cranbrook, BC) in the victory. Dube added one assist as he was named the “Red Tomato Pie” Player of the Game. Dube’s winning goal in a shootout saw him beat 100 Mile goalie Ivan Tolsma (Leduc, AB) between the legs.
Kamloops led 2-0 after the first period on goals from Dube and Evan Clark (Kamloops, BC). The Wranglers evened things up with two straight goals in period two courtesy of Kayden Stark (Terrace, BC) and Trent Thiessen (Williams Lake, BC).
The Storm scored twice in 49 seconds in the second to regain their two goal lead. Ryan Larsen (Kamloops, BC) scored his 11 th of the year while Jaden Beauchamp (St. Albert, AB) notched his first KIJHL goal. Three of Kamloops four goals were on the power play.
Ethan Davey and Kelton Schinde (both Terrace, BC) scored in the third period to force overtime and a shootout. Shinde had a goal and three assists and scored his goal with Tolsma on the bench for an extra attacker with 11 seconds left in regulation time.
Colton Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) stopped 36 shots in goal for Kamloops to raise his record to 15-8-0-1.
The Storm will head to Summerland to play the Steam on Saturday (Jan 20). Their next home game is Friday January 26th when they entertain the North Okanagan Knights at the Mac Isle Olympic Ice surface. Puck drop is 7 PM. Kamloops moves to 24-9-0-1 on the year while 100 Mile House falls to 10-22-0-4.
The Wranglers are off until Wednesday (Jan 24th) when they host the Chase Heat. All those games will be seen on a pay-per-view basis on FloHockeyTV.
