Storm Drop Opener of Best of 7 KIJHL Playoff With Sicamous

KAMLOOPS, BC—It wasn’t the start that the Kamloops Storm had hoped for as they opened their 2024 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League first round series with a 4-3 overtime loss. The visiting Sicamous Eagles got a goal from Caleb Dehoog (Salmon Arm, BC) at 9:29 of the first extra period.
The goal was scored after the Storm turned over the puck in their own end. Dehoog ripped a shot in the left faceoff circle which Kamloops goaltender Colton Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) had no chance on.
Sicamous took it to Kamloops from the opening faceoff of the hockey game and led 2—0 nine minutes into it, as they pressed the Storm in their own end.
Brendan Calahasen (Cochrane, AB) and Alexander Leskiw (Edmonton, AB) had given the Eagles the lead before Kamloops rallied with two goals of their own in the first period. Loch Stefanishyn (Pinawa, MB) and Nathan Bohmer (Logan Lake, BC) both scored on rockets to the top of Sicamous goalte
Luke Rothfos (Devon, AB) gave Sicamous a 3-2 lead early in the third period befnder Dylan Marshall (Saskatoon, SK).Loch Stefanishyn scored his second goal of the game on a beautiful toe drag which completely fooled Marshall.
Sicamous outshot Kamloops 35-26 on the night.
Game two of the best of seven will be played Saturday (Feb 24) at Mac Isle. Puck drop is 7 PM . The game will be shown on a pay-per-view basis on FloHockeyTV.
