Hufty signs with SJHL’s Mustangs

Jacob Hufty of the Kamloops Storm is returning to play for the Melfort Mustangs in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League this fall.

The Kamloops product played 13 games last season for the Mustangs, registering four points before returning to the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League with the Storm before the Christmas break. In 18 games, Hufty produced 13 points. He’s excited “for another opportunity with Melfort and I feel like I am ready to make an impact.”

My speed and agility improved a lot and I was able to make quicker plays and that came with improved confidence,” said Hufty of where he improved during the season. “The Storm do a great job of advertising their players and promoting them to higher levels.”

Storm General Manager Matt Kolle said Hufty is a complete player, who is big, strong and skilled.

“He has been quickly trending up and will easily make the transition to the Junior A level,” said Kolle. “Jacob has the skills to be a top-six forward and make an impact. He certainly did at our level.”

The former Thompson Blazers U18 product got his first Junior hockey experience during the 2021-22 season with the B.C. Hockey League’s Merritt Centennials and Storm as an affiliate player.
