The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Dec.7.
Forwards
Jake Neufeld – Revelstoke Grizzlies
The third-year forward out of Calgary had a big weekend for the Grizzlies with four goals and three assists in two games helping them win twice. He played an average of 17:09 a game and was +5. He followed a three-point performance against the Sicamous Eagles by scoring a hat-trick and added an assist in their 6-3 win against the Osoyoos Coyotes.
Luca D’Amore – Kamloops Storm
After putting up three points in a 6-5 shootout loss to the 100 Mile House Wranglers, the hometown product scored twice, including the game-winner, against the Kelowna Chiefs. D’Amore played an average of 23:50 a game.
Levi Astill – Grand Forks Border Bruins
Last year’s Top Scorer and MVP had three goals, including a winner, and two assists in two games. Astill had three points against Castlegar in a 5-4 loss. Against Chase, Astill had two points, including the winning goal. He played an average of 20:38 a game and was +7.
Defence
Declan Pocock – Williams Lake Mustangs
Pocock leads the Mustangs blueline in points and he collected two assists in their 6-3 loss to Princeton, then scored the overtime winner against Kimberley 53 seconds into the period. Over the two games he was +1 and played an average of 27:06 a game.
Tobin Mikkelsen – Spokane Braves
Mikkelsen played a key part in the Braves’ offence as they defeated the 100 Mile House Wranglers 6-3. Mikkelsen scored a goal and had two assists, including setting up Keegan Stickel’s winner. Mikkelsen was a +2 over two games and played an average of 20:43 a game.
Goalie
Leo den Besten – Fernie Ghostriders
den Besten was the best. The St.Albert, Alta, native posted consecutive shutouts against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in identical 3-0 wins, saving a total of 61 shots. In both games he was tested heavily in the third period, making 15 and 17 saves respectively.
