Justice Loewen (Princeton Posse), Grady Sterling-Ponech (Princeton Posse) and Dawson Holitzki (Kamloops Storm) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 17/24.
Loewen – Top Forward – The Calgary, Alta., native had three goals and three assists in two games for the Posse. In their 6-0 win over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Nov. 15, Loewen assisted on Brendan Sumner’s winning goal, then added another assist and scored. On Nov. 16, in a 7-0 win over the Kamloops Storm, Loewen set up Joshua Roy for the insurance goal and also scored twice on the power-play. Loewen is third on the Posse with 23 points in 19 games.
Sterling-Ponech – Top Defenceman – The Lethbridge, Alta., native had a goal and two assists in two games for the Posse, and was a plus four. In their 6-0 win over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Nov. 15, Sterling-Ponech collected an assist. On Nov. 16 in a 7-0 win over the Kamloops Storm, Sterling-Ponech scored to give the Posse a 3-0 lead and had an assist. The 5-11, 180-pound blueliner leads their defence in points with 22 in 20 games and this is his second Top Defenceman selection.
Holitzki – Top Goalie – The Kelowna native helped the Storm earn a 4-0 win against the Sicamous Eagles on Nov. 15, earning his first career KIJHL shutout with a 42-save performance. Holitzki stopped 23 shots in the third period. The 6-1, 175-pound goalie has four wins in seven games with a 3.52 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
