Storm’s Erichuk signs with University of Jamestown

Alek Erichuk of the Kamloop Storm has signed to play for the University of Jamestown Jimmies in the ACHA Division 1.

The Kamloops native completed his junior career in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League recording 22 points in 31 games. He added five points in 13 playoff games.

“I thought I did pretty well. I think I helped the organization get better,” said Erichuk, who helped the Storm advance to the second round of the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs, where they lost to the Revelstoke Grizzlies.

The 6-3, 220-pound defenceman improved his hockey sense and confidence skating with the puck. Erichuk also improved his passing.

Erichuk said signing with the Jimmies is a good feeling as playing university hockey was a goal of his. After exploring his options, Erichuk felt going to the University of Jamestown was the best fit because of the quality of the program. He plans to study computer science and see how that goes.

The Jimmies also get a player with BCHL experience as last season Erichuk played with the Merritt Centennials. Erichuk said the pace of play was at another level and it helped him improve his play and will continue to while in the ACHA.
