Storm’s Sanford signs with SJHL Mustangs

Kyle Sanford of the Kamloops Storm has signed to play for the Melfort Mustangs in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in 2022-23.

In his lone season with his hometown team, Sanford had seven goals and 26 points in 41 KIJHL regular season games. He added four goals and seven points in 13 Teck Cup playoff games.

“I’m really excited that I’m getting this opportunity to play Junior A hockey and I couldn’t be more happy that it is with the Melfort Mustangs,” said Sanford. “My time with the Kamloops Storm has helped me prepare for the jump to Junior A and I cannot wait to get started.”

“Kyle is a responsible 200-foot player with a high hockey IQ, and a high compete level,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins. “He finds the right areas on the ice to put himself and his teammates in positions to score.”

Storm General Manager Matt Kolle said Kyle is an outstanding person and a player.

“He is an honest two-way player who puts his team first,” said Kolle. “He does the small things that not everyone sees, but are necessary for team success. The Melfort Mustangs are getting a player that makes everyone around him better.”
