Weekend Wrap – Storm Split

Storm upset by Chase, beat Princeton

KAMLOOPS, BC – It was a .500 weekend for the Kamloops Storm in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play. The Storm beat the Posse in Princeton 3-1 on Friday (Jan 12) but then were upset at home by the Chase Heat 2-1 on Saturday (Jan 13).
The result left the Storm with a record of 23-9-0-1. That is good enough for third spot in the KIJHL Doug Birks Division.
On Saturday, all the scoring was done in the first period. Jake Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) had the lone goal for Kamloops. Ryan Larsen and Hudson Clarke (both Kamloops, BC) notched the assists. For Larsen, it was his third assist of the weekend, giving him 18 on the year.
Colton Phillips-Watts (Quesnel, BC) was in goal for both games this weekend. On Saturday, he faced 29 shots. Luke Roberts (St. Albert, AB) got the win in goal for the Heat facing 32 pucks. It was his second straight start against Kamloops and finished with a series record of 1-1.
Josh David (Ponoka, AB) and Kieran Armitage (Red Deer, AB) had the goals for Chase, who beat Kamloops twice in the regular season series: the first game (October 3rd in Chase 5-1) and the game Saturday. The Storm won the series 5-2.
On Friday night, Kamloops beat the Bill Olhausen division leading Posse 3-1. The Storm got second period goals from Nathan Bohmer (Logan Lake, BC) and Teghan Mullin (Kamloops, BC). Evan Clark (Kamloops, BC) added an insurance goal in the third period.
Bohmer was making his Storm debut since being acquired from the 100 Mile House Wranglers at the KIJHL trading deadline. He has 12 goals the year.
Josh Roy (Penticton, BC) had the lone Princeton goal. Phillips-Watts turned aside 37 shots. Joey Hawco (Upper Tanalon, Nova Scotia) took the loss in goal for the Posse handling 36 shots.
Next action for the Storm is Friday January 19th when they host the 100 Mile House Wranglers. Opening faceoff is 7 PM at the Olympic Ice Surface at Mac Isle. It can be seen on a pay-per-view basis on FloHockey TV.
